For almost sixty years, the Flynn family has been growing blueberries and cranberries in Pitt Meadows. Through our farm’s winery located one kilometer east of the Pitt River Bridge, we use our vintage varieties to produce our hand-crafted line of unique table wines.
Octogenarian George Flynn and his family have grown blueberries on their Pitt Meadows farm for more than 50 years. Almost all of the fruit is sold from their roadside market to loyal repeat customers. They added cranberries in the 1990s.
Flynn was inspired to add a winery to the business after seeing the success of The Fort Wine Co., located nearby. Blue Heron’s early vintages were made by The Fort’s winemakers. In 2006, Richard Flynn, one of George’s sons, took early retirement from a career in civil engineering to take over as Blue Heron’s winemaker. Most of Blue Heron’s wines are now made in-house. Located on the North side of the Fraser river opposite The Fort Winery Company. George Flynn started farming his property in 1946 and at the age of 84 opened his winery in 2003. His 20 acres orginally was composed of cranberriesand blueberries. George hired Dominic Rivard at The Fort Winery to produce the initial wines for Blue Heron. The wines include Blueberry, Strawberry and Cranberry, as well as dessert wines including peach/apricot; also a very sweet, very smooth iced apple dessert wine.
